10/9/22 Squat Codex Fully Drafted and Other News

This has been an exciting week! We performed two play test with the Troop Choice and Fast Attack Choice Squats that have been released so far and have begun refining the rules.

Beam is a new game mechanic that we have altered to make more sense both visually and cinematically.

HQ and Advisor Choices have been drafted up for the next series of tests.

Judgement has been modified to be a limited but devastating blow to the Judged unit. The Squats suffer some potential penalties in their haste to destroy such a hated foe for an even more intense feel of their legendary grudges!

The Einhyr Champion now rerolls failed Charges, making the slower army much more reliable at getting into melee.

The Brokhyr Iron Master has had a massive rework. Not only has his weapons been improved, but he is no longer forced to take a quantity of E-COGs that do not help him in his purpose. In addition, his many sporadic abilities kept him to point heavy to be able to perform his intended purpose as an Advisor. He now performs a basic repair, with his Ironkin Assistant gaining Manipulator Arms to further assist him at his job. The now 0-6 optional E-COGs may take any of the three weapons available, allowing them to better assist with repairs, provide a cheap protective screen, or a heavy hitting melee unit!

The Grimnhyr never lived up to its own lore provided in the official rulebook. It has now been correctly altered to not suffer Perils of the Warp because of the technological shielding of the Staves they use. Due to their inherent weak psychic signature, even with the Staves they struggle to access very powerful warp abilities. They are in the low end of the Psychic Spectrum like many codexes, and have a variety of solid of spells to buff, shoot, or punish with the weight of their many grudges against you!

Other news as well! With both the discovery of very old Imperial Guard models and new model announcements, more weapon variety has reached the Stormtroopers and Sentinel variants. This includes Heavy Weapon Teams from early to mid 1990’s. The new kits coming out include Sniper Rifles and Demolition Charges! While Heavy weapon rules do not normally work well with Deepstrike and assault style units, they can form a battle line in the beginning of the game or get into position midgame to bring incoming fire from all directions.

In addition to sprue updates, new artillery pieces are being released! From the initial looks of it, this will be another iteration of the Rapier Battery, single barrel, Light Battle Cannon, and an indirect fire version of the Multiple Rocket Pod. We are holding off until we see what is intended and seeing the actual models ourselves because 40k should be a cinematically driven game, and if at any point that is not the case something should be changed!

In even more exciting news, a new concept for the Sisters of Battle Miracle Dice rule has been conceived! Utilizing a Monsterpocalypse mechanic, we believe that a more consistent use of Miracles on the field will be more accurate to the lore and less dependent on the army you are fighting for earning and expending them. Dice Currency is a fun concept, and we look forward to testing.
