6/11/23 Catachans, Imperial Guard, Tank Rules, and Blood Angels

This week was crazy content heavy! We finally got to get some more games in and we are excited with our latest updates!

First off, Catachans were lacking the 80’s action “Ahnold! Yanghaghagha!” feel they bring to the table. Jordan had a great idea and it tested very well! They have a carbine rule that makes Lasguns and Hotshot Lasguns have R-6. In return, they gain a beefy Catachan knife melee weapon that uses the following profile: R Melee, S+1, AP-, Rules: None. We ran this against the Blood Angels it performed satisfyingly well, but did not break the game! The Imperial Guard Codex has been updated to reflect these changes.

In addition, some random Imperial Guard Wargear was added. Thanks to Death Krieg kits of yore, Heavy Weapon Teams can now take a Heavy Flamer. Being the cheapest option, this is now the default heavy weapon for squads. This does allow Veterans or Command Squads to get two, one with a Heavy Weapons Team and one with a stand alone Veteran!

In addition, we added Camo Netting upgrade options for most Artillery units. They could use some defense options, and just like in real world application, are vulnerable being a static weapon. We also got to test the Foe Hammer of the Praetor Assault Launcher. The Battle Report can be found as number 24. Catachan Jungle Fighters vs Blood Angels 3000 points. My scatter dice hated me (and my brave men of the Imperium) but it proved its potency against the mighty Blood Angels!

We have finished testing the Tank keyword we have been working on for quite a few games now. Tanks and Titanic models continue to fire like normal while engaged in Melee. Monstrous Infantry and Monsters may fire into their own Melee or out of their Melee, but suffer a -1 To Hit and a +1 To Scatter with Templates. This helps Tanks not feel like a worse option than Combat Walkers, and has tipped the scales of battle several times in a thematic way as the massive hulking frames shrug off the pathetic attempts of Xenos scum to destroy them while they rain death and destruction across the battlefield!

Lastly, Blood Angels are done! Their army rules have tested exceptionally well. The last remaining piece is for one more fluff rule for Dante. Once we have that ironed out the Chapter Supplement will be live!

As always, happy wargaming! Next up will be Space Wolves!
