7/31 and 8/7/23 Side Project

The last two weeks have been pretty quiet. We have been trying to get a game scheduled to test the Black Templars chapter supplement, but life has eluded our attempts. In the meantime, I reconnected with a friend to play the only other game that possibly has more investment time than Warhammer 40k for me; Axis and Allies Miniatures.

Not to be confused with Axis and Allies board game, Miniatures (also called Miniatures Land because of the Sea and Air spin offs) is a World War II game that took units to a hex map and pit them against each other. It had 10 waves released, but ultimately was discontinued forever ago.

My friend got me into the game and we have been playing since 1st grade or something like that, whenever it came out. We, like just about everyone at this point, had made some quick house rules to expand the game because it did not include all of the tanks used during the war. The developers had not run off of a strict formula, and by the end of the game there were collisions of point costs and quality control of the models.

We are looking at getting together to play again after a few years and I ended up hyper focusing on this side project. Two or Three hours later a formula was made, and two weeks later the core book has been rewritten as well as all of the stat cards that were released during the game’s life span. It is not perfect and requires testing, but I might launch a website to host the files if we determine it is balanced for anyone interested. Main reason for doing this was to add additional units to the game without breaking it as well as fixing some inconsistencies from Wizards of the Coast.

This also allowed me to finish repainting and turfing my USA army. I was nearly done before but got distracted. I used to have a large British army as well, and a monster sized German army, but life took those two armies from me several years ago. There is still some work I would like to do such as printing some 1/150 scale CCKW trucks (the game changed the Vehicle scale half way through release, and I want my Vehicles to match) and do some others like B17 Flying Fortresses once I get my 3d printer back up and running.

That being said, the side project is up and running. Any additional tweaks will take hardly anytime at all and I am back into building space marine chapter supplements for the back log of play testing Alternate 40k Rules needs. Now that I got my Axis and Allies Miniatures: Reloaded bug out of my system, I can go back to the extensive project!

As always, enjoy your wargaming in whatever flavour it may be in! I’m including some photos of my USA for anyone interested.
