It has been a very productive week paperwork wise! In addition to having the Squats and Dark Eldar prepared for final testing and already ahead of schedule into the Final Draft stage, we now have Imperial Knights added to the mix!
Imperial Knights bring a massive amount of firepower to the table. They are the only faction that is more expensive per model than the Custodes with the exception of their fallen brothers, Chaos Knights (still in the works but we will get there!).
They can bring exclusively Titanic Combat Walkers, or may choose to flood the field with many heavily built Combat Walkers if they want to get a higher wound pool point for point. Currently, and this is subject to change as we try to break the Codex as part of our in depth play testing, the Armiger variants, the Knight variant (includes 4 datasheets wrapped into one for more customization), and the Commander (an improved version of the Knight) all have Objective Secured. In Alternate 40k Rules only Infantry can claim Objectives unless the datasheet grants them Objective Secured.
These core units are massively powerful with a wide array of firepower and Melee at their disposal. Should of course you need a weapon specialist, many other knight variants exist in the Codex to bring as much fire power as you need to bare, including Destroyer Strength weapons and several Hellstorm Templates to pick from.
With so much firepower to pick from, the only hard part is going to be deciding what to bring to the table!
Natural concerns for this Codex are tournament capabilities of winning an Objective Point game against a balanced list from another army. With their House rules and very expensive models, keeping the objective game strong while facing them and dealing with the worse threat one at a time will be key. Extensive play testing will as always be required with extreme lists taken to see what needs addressed.
One last note, the Venerable Contemptor Dreadnought for the Custodes has been given full weapon selection, just like the Space Marine Codex. There is no lore or logical reason why they would not have more than a handful of options.
As always, happy wargaming and we hope to see you on the battlefield!
