We are carrying on the Slow Grow League for A4R in Southwest Missouri! We hope everyone had a good holiday break in December but are eager to get back to it. On January 31st we will be doing Session 2 at 750 points per player.
What is a Slow Grow League? It is a series of games, starting very small, that gradually build up into a full-scale battle by the end. This is a great way to learn a new ruleset, as you start with the essential units and slowly begin to use advanced wargear and more expensive and specialized datasheets.
Where is it at? Whiskey 7 Wargaming LLC in Joplin Missouri has offered to let us play there on the day of their grand opening! It is literally just now opening at the end of January, so you will probably have to get to by address rather than name:
1515 W. 10th St. Suite C, which you can also follow this link to get there https://maps.app.goo.gl/3YWe7hveEWS9gmNH7
There is no fee for A4R, but this site is a rental game space that will have game supplies available for use. While the A4R has no fee, the location has an affordable option for a 1-day pass or monthly subscription. I am including the links below for your convenience:
1-Day pass, $7.50

1-Month, Membership, $30

Monthly Subscription, $25

This site is hosted by a local gamer, Ryan, and we want to help him get off to a good start! This fee will also count towards the Tournament Point for supporting the local brick and mortar store the event is hosted at.
What we will be doing: If you can make it, let me know your list. The second round of games will be 750 point limits. You are required to have at least 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices. Some armies such as Imperial Knights cannot do this and stay in point limits, so get with me to build something everyone can learn on without hating their day. This should be enough points for most armies to get a Commander and some of their core infantry units.
Existing armies can use the old list and add to it or just start over altogether. This is a chance to try things out and see what works for you and what does not.
For those of you that have not participated in A4R Slow Grow League, we will start by running a series of basic scenarios to introduce the core rules and concepts. For those that made the last one, you will continue down the line of scenarios in the scenario packet.
The Game: is designed for 2500 points to be considered a well rounded force. What we will be doing is special narrative scenarios designed to ease you into the game. Players will play against myself and the team that helped me create A4R. Our intent is to help you learn the game over several sessions.
The Rules: are Alternate 40k Rules, found for free on this website. While you do not have to memorize them by any means, we do ask you give it a read through so you have an idea of what you will be getting into. This will also let you bring questions to us so we can address them beforehand.
Start Time: will be 10am on Saturday 1/31/26. I will probably bug out around 4pm, but that does not mean you cannot carry on with the fun!
Prizes: Pride and boasting rights. This is a free event, with a free ruleset. If it goes well, I may see about trying to get some donations or scrounging some stuff up for conclusion of the Slow Grow at 3000 point armies for a final battle, but there IS NO PROMISES that this will be available. I would like to, but as before mentioned, I am making nothing off of this and have bills to pay.
Future Games: are intended. The next one will be a 1000 point game, but this time in Monett Missouri area. The intent is to bounce around so some players are not stuck with consistent long drives each time.
You will not have to attend every single game, but making early games in the Slow Grow will drastically help you learn A4R at the same rate as the other new players, which will help with overall understanding and expectations.
To Attend: You will need to reach out to me directly with your 750 point list. I am more than happy to answer questions and help make a list, but please at least skim the core rulebook and your army book/expansions first so I don’t get overwhelmed with repetitive questions.
Also, do not forget to pay your day or month pass!
Tournament Points: are rewarded for attending to some capacity, supporting the local store, demonstrating good sportsmanship, painted armies, and a few other odds and ends. Winning and losing do not matter for the points because we want to encourage people to try fun things and not feel pressured to build mega optimized lists.
We are super stoked to see you! Please RSVP as soon as possible so I can get plans together for the hosting!
